Managed Backup
Good businesses create backups for their data. Smart businesses create smart backups. Today many MSPs offer to create and store the backup of a business’s data.
GuardTec is one such managed service provider or MSP. We help create and store a backup of your data in a safe and confidential manner. This data can be accessed easily irrespective of your location and is of immense help for remote working arrangements.
Having a backup of your data enables you to restore data and ensure business continuity in the event of a crisis or a threat. But having a reliable and safe backup can be costly for new businesses and it also requires a certain degree of expertise to access it easily when required. This is why it makes so much sense to outsource this requirement to an external expert.
Types Of Backup
There is mainly three types of backups that companies resort to. Each comes with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Full backup – This is when companies create a backup of entire files, documents, folders, hard drives and more. This happens every time, irrespective of if there has been a prior backup of any kind. With fullback up, it is easier to restore data, but because of the huge size, it is a big strain on the storage space and the time taken to create the backup.
Differential backup – Companies usually follow a full backup with a differential backup. That is they back up only that data that was created or changed since the last full backup. Differential backup creates duplicate files though not as much as a full backup.
Incremental backup – Here, initially there is a full backup done, followed by storing only those changes that were made to the previous backup. This backup requires the least storage space as only the most recent changes to data are stored. For the same reason, it is also the fastest backup that can be done. There are no duplicate files created while doing an incremental backup.
Why do you need managed backup?
Disaster Recovery – When your IT systems are under attack or if the office premises themselves is under attack, you may have to take them offline for a while. During this period, your employees will probably be working remotely until everything is restored. This is why having a good and reliable backup is crucial. First and foremost it makes remote working possible and without any glitches. Second, it reduces the time between downtime and when your systems are back up and running.
Deletion –accidental deletion of data is quite common in the workplace. By having an MSP handle your data back up, you can be assured that nothing will be lost forever. Moreover, it will be possible to quickly restore the deleted information.
Server Failures – Even though server failing is rare, it is not unheard of. Sometimes the server will have to be rebuilt from scratch and all information restored from a backup. MSPs make this an easy task. Hence the recovery is quicker and there is minimum downtime.
Backups in the Cloud – A lot of businesses today uses cloud-based systems in its day to day operations. However, you will still need a backup to minimise the impact of data loss. Most service providers do not give options for backing up the data and the company will have to go in for an external data backup service.
